This summer, several early modern Twitter users will begin discussing Robert Burton’s The Anatomy of Melancholy. We have decided to use the 2001 New York Review of Books Classics edition, but there are several free full text versions of Burton available on the web. This reading group will be open to all interested parties, and hopefully our community will grow over the course of our summer reading.

While a majority of the discussion will be posted through personal blog posts and through Tweets using the #Melancholics hashtag, I wanted to create a space where we might be able to have more extended discussions or to set up reading schedules and topics of interest. Feel free to add topics and comments as you see fit.

I hope to be able to create a separate site on the subdomain along with a discussion group Wiki, but we’ll see if my limited computing knowledge and skills are up to the task.

The discussion will begin in earnest with “Democritus to the Reader” around the eleventh of July. Stay melancholy, my friends.
